Biography

Birth

Philip Carteret Whittemore, born September 1, 1766, was baptized September 7, 1766, son of William Whittemore and Abigail (Carteret) Whittemore. ^{[1] [2]}

On 2 February 1787, Philip married Lydia Phelps, daughter of Joseph and Lydia (Osgood) Phelps of Andover. ^[3]

They had ten children^[4]:

Joseph Whittemore, born 11 March 1788 in Charlestown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.

Lydia Whittemore, born 30 November 1789 in Charlestown.

Mary Whittemore, born 12 March 1791 in Charlestown.

Elizabeth Whittemore, born 13 May 1793 in Charlestown.

Philip Carteret Whittemore, born 25 July 1795 in Charlestown.

Abigail Whittemore, born 5 September 1797 in Charlestown.

Charles Whittemore, born 25 December 1799 in Charlestown.

Lewis Whittemore, born 9 October 1801 in Charlestown; died 3 May 1803

• There is a Lewis Whittemore, son of Philip and Lydia, who died 7 May 1806, age on headstone 2 years, 7 months. This is probably the second Lewis, suggesting that the NEHGR's "Whittemore Family in America" may have the wrong dates.^[5][6]

Residence

In 1790, he and his family resided in Charlestown, Middlesex County. ^[7] In 1850, age 83, Philip, "insane", resided in the Poor House in West Cambridge. ^[8]

Death

Phillip Whittemore, a widower and pauper, died of "old age" 30 June 1855 in West Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. ^[9]
