Charles and his wife moved to Nelson Twnshp, Portage, Ohio, after their marriage. Five months after the birth of their first child, Anna died. He waited a year before marrying again. It was while they were there that they heard the gospel preached, and in 1831/2 they were baptized. Like many others, they were affected by all the persecutions of the saints. They went to Iowa in 1846, stopping at Mt. Pisgah for a time. In 1850 they finally joined a wagon train coming to the Valley. Later they moved to Springville, where they built their home. Charles was a farmer by trade and spent the rest of his life with his family in Springville . He was an honest and industrious man, devoted to the church and his family.
