Biography

Birth record shows father "J.M. Bingham" and mother "K Bingham", both are probably interpretations of I.M. and C.

Joseph was baptized Dec 12, 1769 in Birchanger.

His parents moved the family to Gosport in 1779.

Adm. Joseph Bingham RN Joseph Bingham: in 1798 commanded the Prince George, bearing Sir William Parker's flag, on the coast of Spain. Afterwards served in the East Indies. Commanded the Sceptre, 74, in the Schldt expedition, 1809; and the Egmont sucessively in America, the North Sea, and Baltic: died Dec. 1825.

He married Sarah second daughter of his old friend and patron the late Admiral Sir William Parker 1st Bt. of Harburn by his wife Jane eldest daughter of Edward Collingwood of Greenwich esq on 13 April 1797 at Westminster, London, Middlesex, England.

In private life he was beloved for his integrity sincerity and domestic virtues and his memory will be long cherished with affectionate regard by his brother Officers and a large circle of acquaintance as well as by his beloved family who are left to mourn his untimely and irreparable loss.

Joseph Bingham RN died in December 1825 at his home in Mayfair, London. He is buried in the Crypt at St. Paul's Cathedral in London near Lord Nelson.

A will mentioned Rev George Burrard, Rev Thomas Schreiber, both sons-in-law to Joseph, also his wife Sarah. His estate passed probate in 1825. 'Rear Admiral Red Squadron Royal Navy formerly of Lymington, Hants, lately of Curzon St, Mayfair, Middx.'[1]
