Biography

Jacob Lowe Patch was born in Hamilton, Massachusetts, probably in December of 1809.[1] He was the son of Benjamin Patch, Jr. and Martha Low.

Jacob was a farmer.[2]

Jacob married Lydia A. Lamson on 13 Apr 1836, in Hamilton.[3]

Jacob and Lydia had four children:

  • Lydia Patch (b. 16 Mar 1838;[4] d. 8 Aug 1842, age 4 years 5 months, of "scrofulous consumption," in Hamilton)[5]
  • Martha Patch (b. 28 Jul 1841;[6] bp. 5 Nov 1843, Congregational Church)[7]
  • Albert Lamson Patch (b. 10 Dec 1842;[8] d. 11 Dec 1858)[9]
  • Charles Patch (b. 25 Feb 1844;[10] bp. 14 Jul 1844, Congregational Church)[11]

Jacob died in Ipswich of dysentery on 11 Oct 1849, at the age of 39 years, 10 months.[12] The date of 12 Oct 1848, in the Hamilton records, may be a burial date.[13]

Jacob died intestate. His widow, Lydia, petitioned to be made administratrix of his estate on 6 Nov 1849. Standing with her as surety for the bond were Jarvis Lamson, a yeoman, and Jacob Lovering, a gentleman.[14] The surviving probate records do not provide a list of his children or indication of the final distribution of his estate.
