Born about 1693, Henry Drax was the eldest son of Thomas Drax (formerly Shatterden) of Pope’s Common, Hertfordshire, Ellerton Abbey and Barbados and his wife Elizabeth Ernle,[1] daughter of Edward Ernle of Etchilhampton in Wiltshire. He was educated at Eton 1706-7 and at Magdalene College, Cambridge.
Before 23 Dec. 1719, he had married his cousin, Elizabeth Ernle, daughter and heir of Sir Edward Ernle, 3rd Bt., and his wife, Frances Erle, daughter and heir of General Thomas Erle of Charborough in Dorset. Together they had 3 sons and 5 daughters.
He died 24 May 1755. [2]
