Biography

Sophia was born in 1889.[1][2] She was the daughter of Charles Kalmanowitz and Marcia Bluma Mogilevkin.[3] She married Harry Derber in 1914.[4]

Harry and Sophie had three children:

  1. Milton[5][6]
  2. Eva Dorothy (Eve)[7]
  3. Rose (Rae)[8]

Sophie died in 1953.[9] She was buried at City of Homes Cemetery in Springfield, Massachusetts.[10][11]

Obituary

Mrs. Sophie (Kalman) Derber, 61, of 12 Standish St., died Sunday at Mercy Hospital after a long illness. Born in Russia, she came to this city 35 years ago. Mrs. Derber was a past president of the Pioneer Women's Club, and a member of B'nai B'rith and Beth El Temple Sisterhood. She leaves her husband, Harry Derber, a son, Milton Derber of Champaigne, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Eve Dolgin and Mrs. Rae Webber, both of Springfield; a brother, Benjamin Kalman of Springfield; three sisters, Mrs. Adele Kalman of Springfield, Mrs. Hattie Neufield of New York City and Mrs. Bessie Feldman of Springfield; and seven grandchildren. The funeral services will be held at the F. M. Forastiere and Son funeral home this afternoon at 2. Rabbi Eliezer A. Levi will officiate. Burial will be in City of Homes Cemetery.[14]
