It was there when I was little (92). My mother’s father, William Clarence Anthony built the church from his own timber off his land to build the church. They lived on Kirk Rd. which is closer to Fisherville than Collierville. 1

We went to church there every Sunday morning and, on Sunday night, in a wagon so we could sleep. My mother, Vessie Aline Anthony Smith, sang in the choir & my dad, Vivian Brooks Smith, was a deacon. Visiting preachers always stayed with us because we lived so close. The house we lived in was on 20 acres across the street from the church. Victoria Brooks Smith gave us the land. 1

Mother cooked for the preachers. Wm. Clarence did not go to church there. He went to a Christian Church near Kirk, Collierville. Our primary church was Fisherville Baptist. We left when I was about 10 years old because my mother developed TB. My father put her in Oakville Sanitarium in Oakville, TN off Lamar and we moved closer to be near her. 1

William Clarence is buried in Kirk. Vivian Brooks Smith is buried at Fisherville Baptist. Vessie is buried in Memorial Park. 1

Elsie has a stone from Big Creek of Peter Wynn’s wife (her husband's family). 1

V. Brooks Smith. 1 Brooks Smith of 350 North Garland died at 7:15 a.m. yesterday at John Gaston Hospital. He was 85. Memphis Funeral Home on Union has charge. 1

Mr. Smith, who was born in Eads, Tenn, was a retired salesman. He was a member of the Fisherville Baptist Church. 1

He leaves four sons, H.W. Smith of New Orleans, W.C. Smith of Raleigh-Millington Road, V. Brooks Smith Jr. of Rolling Oaks Drive, and Leonard Smith of Memphis; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Peeler of Alexandria, Va., and Mrs. O.C.V. of Memphis; two brothers, J. V. Smith and W.W. Smith, both of Memphis; and nine grandchildren. END.
