Biography

Hugh was born on 15 July 1939 in Tennessee. He was the son of James Banks Binkley and Lula Ida Bell Layton.^[1]

On 18 February 1956, three cars went off the one-lane bridge over the Big Harpeth River on Old Harding Road. One of the cars was driven by Wayne Harbin, and his passengers were Hugh Binkley, Kenneth Odum, and Bubba Roberts. They were heading to Harpeth Valley school to play with their hillbilly band. Wayne Harbin and Bubba Roberts escaped, as did the people in the other two cars.^[2] Kenneth Odum's body was found on 19 February 1956.^[3] Hugh's body was found on 20 February 1956.^{[4] [5]} He was buried in the family cemetery in Vaughn's Gap, Davidson County, Tennessee.^[6]
