Biography

Edward Benjamin Franklin Real was born in August 1827 in White County, Tennessee. [1] He was a son of George Washington Real, Jr. and Esther Pilson. [2] He was married at several times, He supposedly married Anne Shoemaker before he married Elizabeth Greer. in Tennessee. He married Elizabeth Greer on 23 December 1847 in White County, Tennessee. [3] [4] [2] [5] He applied for a passport in 1855. [6] He was on the tax rolls in Denton County, Texas in 1857. [7] [8] He was listed in the Civil War Soldiers Index. [9] He married Mary "Polly" (Wiggins) Harkey 06 May 1869 in Yell County, Arkansas. [10] He married Ellen (...) Robinson 16 March 1871 in Johnson County (now Logan County), Arkansas. [11] [12] [13] He married Jennie (Salsbury) before 17 December 1906 in Sebastion County, Arkansas. He applied for an increase in his veteran's pension. APPLICATION FOR INCREASE OF PENSION.

State of Arkansas, County of [Benton]. I, [E. B. F. Real] do solemly swear that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I am now drawing a pension as an ex-Confederate soldier, under an act of the General Asembly of 1901, having made my original application from the county of [Benton]; that I am still in indigent circumstances; that I do not myself, nor does my wife, nor do we both together, own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor has either of us conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life; that my disability has increased, and I am less able to perform manual labor than when my original application was made, by reason of [Old age being 81 years of age] and I hearby make application for an increase of pension, under Act of the General Assembly of 1907. Real of the City of Siloam Springs, County of Benton and State of Arkansas being of good health of body and of sound and disposing mind and memory and being desirous of setting my worldly affairs while I have strength and capacity so to do, do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament, that is to say;
First, I give and bequeathe to my son James Real now of Shoal Creek, Ark, the sum of one dollar, to my daughter Hannah McElroy of Ratcliffe, Ark, the sum of one dollar, to my son L. C. Real of Siloam Springs, Ark, the sum of one dollar.
Second, To my beloved and devoted wife Jennie Real I give and bequeathe all of the remainder of my property both personal and real of which I may die possessed after any just debts and funeral expenses have been paid.
