Sued for divorce by his wife in 1898, charging cruelty and neglect. His death was probably a suicide: "Carbolic acid poisoning" on his death cert. Assuming that his wife's testimony in her divorce petition is accurate, he probably had syphilis (a "loathsome private disease").

His will, date 25 January 1913 (less than 3 months before his death) uses boilerplate text for many provisions. He leaves his entire estate to his surviving children or their descendanats "share and share alike". Some debts are noted in the filing of his will. It is not recorded whether these were settled. His named executors were Thomas H Langham and Victor Aubry.

He was the son of George Washington (Hargrave) Hargraves and Anastasie Aspasie (Trahan) Hargraves.^[1]

On 16 June 1880 Levi (age 44) was living in Taylor Bayou, Labelle, (District 41), Jefferson Co, Texas. Note: resident 50/2:

Levi died at the age of 77 on 28 April 1913 in Labelle, Jefferson Co, Texas. Note: Elizabeth is shown as a widow in 1900 census living with son Jeff and wife June Gentz Hargraves. Donna Storz explains: "He did die on 28 April 1913 of carbolic acid poisoning (suicide). Elizabeth says 'widowed' in 1900 census probably because she didn't want to say divorced. She filed for divorce in April 1898 citing 'unkind, harsh and tyranical [sic] treatment' toward her. I have a copy of the original complaint which her great, great grandson provided me. According to the complaint they stopped living together in April 1896 as she couldn't stand the ill treatment which had begun within 6 years of their marriage. His treatment of her was 'excessive, cruel & outrageous and of such a nature as to render their ever again living together insupportable, and that she is entitled to a divorce.'".^[1]

Levi was buried after 28 April 1913 in Burrell Cem, Taylor Bayou, Labelle/Fannett, Jefferson Co, Texas.
