Biography

When Mary "Polly" Pearson was born on November 9, 1794, in Virginia, her father, Sherwood, was 52, and her mother, Elizabeth, was 44. She married Robert W. Muse on December 23, 1828 in Pittsylvania, Virginia. She died on January 12, 1875, in Franklin, Virginia, having lived a long life of 80 years, and was buried in Muse Family Cemetery, Museville, Pittsylvania County, Virginia.

Polly's father bequeathed the following in his 1816 will:

"Item I give to my daughter POLLEY PEERSON and the lawfull heirs of her body forever one Negro woman named Amey and her child Hero and their increase forever and it is my will and desire that the said negroes and their increase shall never be sold under what (unclear word) forever or by whomsoever that is that case my Executors or any of them shall take the said Negro or negroes into his or their possession in trust for the use and benefit for my said daughter Polley and her heirs.
