Mark Lacey was born about 1790 in the Watauga Settlement of the State of Franklin (now Elizabethton, Carter County, Tennessee) to Philemon Lacey and Esther Daniel.

Mark married Elizabeth Campbell on April 23, 1812 in Carter County, Tennessee. Mark and Elizabeth had five known children. Ann, Hannah, Leah, William and Mary.
