Died Mary Axley Stokely attests that her husband was honorably discharged from the Texas Army on 26 July 1836 and died shortly thereafter. 26 JUL 1836. Texas " Life in Missouri" He moved his family from Haywood County, TN, to Missouri where he ran a ferry on the Missouri River. He fought in the War of 1812 and served in battles in Louisiana where he was wounded. He received a lifetime pension for his service.

"Move to Texas" He and his family moved to Texas in January 1836, likely by floating the Mississippi River. The family (minus two sons) settled near Natchitoches, TX. Two of his sons (Jehu and John) dropped off in Vicksburg, MS, as evidenced by Mississippi marriage records. On March 23, 1836, he enlisted in the Company of the Jasper Volunteers under Capt. Jame. Chessher/Chesher to participate in the Texas Revolution. His company never participated in the Battle of San Jacinto, because according to the records the Jasper Volunteers were several miles from the site of the battle at the time. He was described as 6 ft 1 in tall, blue eyes. He died on or around July 1836 . Date and place unknown. Texas
