Biography

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) accepted him as a Patriot per the January/February 2021 Newsletter. See www.dar.org .

A document from the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Pensions, Washington, DC dated Oct. 26, 1922 showed Eleazar and his wife applied for a Revolutionary War service pension on Nov. 30, 1833. The application provided the following military service dates and additional information:

Military service dates: June 1, 1777 - Dec. 1, 1777, Private under Blandin in Vermont Aug. 1, 1778 - Jan. 1, 1779, serving under Lemuel Blandin in Vermont June 20, 1779 - Jan. 1, 1780, Orderly Sergeant, serving under Rosebrooks in New Hampshire Sept. 1, 1780 - March 1, 1781, Private, serving under Lemuel Blandin in Vermont

He was born on September 8, 1760 in Windham County, Connecticut and was a resident of Windsor County, Vermont when he enlisted. After his military service he lived part of the time in Vermont, a short time in New York, then moved to Ohio. He died on July 28, 1843 in Black River Township, Loraine County, Ohio.

In 1853 Temperance Cutler, age 46, also of Black River Township was mentioned as the daughter off Eleazar and his first wife, who?s name was not given. Eleazar married Mary Phelps on September 1, 1813 in Cornwall, Vermont and Mary was in Black River Township on November 18, 1850.

Eleazar's FindaGrave reccord included the following description of his property described in his will. "Situated in the township of Black River, Lorain County and State of Ohio, being a part of Lot #8, in great lot #1, thense, southwardly in the west line of said lot 33 chains and 50 links, thence eastwardly parallel with the north line of said lot nine chains and twenty five links, thence, northwardly parallel with the west 33 chains and 50 links to the north line of the lot nine chains and 25 links to the place of beginning containing 31 acres of land."
