Henry Adams Snow was born in 1798 in Fitchburg, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA. His parents were:
Henry Adams Snow lived the first half of his life in Fitchburg, Worcester County, Massachusetts. In 1822, at 24 years old, he decided to seek his fortune in the new state of Alabama, running a cotton plantation and manufacturing cottonseed oil. He moved to Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama that year. After his father died (in Massachusetts) in November 1824, Henry's mother and younger brother, Charles Snow, moved south to join him in Alabama.
On January 20, 1829, in Washington County, Alabama, Henry-Adams Snow married Abigail "Abby" Hazard. b: 3 NOV 1804 in New London, Connecticut, whose family had also emigrated to the "New South" (Alabama & Mississippi) after they were admitted as States of the USA.
Henry and Abby (Hazard) Snow set up house in the Southern District of Tuscaloosa County, Alabama; initially with his brother Charles until Charles got married in May 1831. Henry & Abby had 6 children:
In 1834, Henry Adams Snow established Alabama's first cottonseed-oil mill near his home in Tuscaloosa County. It was successful as his son, Edward N.C. Snow, later was its owner and manager in the 1880s.
In 1860, Henry & Abby's oldest son died at 29 years old. His youngest son, Edward Nichols Cobbs Snow, was a 1st Lieutenant in the Alabama Cavalry but made it safely through the Civil War (War Between the States). Henry Adams Snow died of unrelated causes at home in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama on February 22, 1864. He was buried near his son and his mother at the Greenwood Cemetery, Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.[1]
