Biography

Ellen O'Brien was born in 1865 in Kilclooney, Kildorrey, Cork, Ireland to Edmond O'Brien, a farmer, and Honora Brassel. She married widower Michael Harty on Valentines Day 1888 in Glenroe, County Limerick. She had her first child, Michael, in Ireland in 1892, and then the family emigrated to Lawrence, MA between 1892 and 1896. She gave birth to two more children in Massachusetts, Edward and William. In April 1898 she was badly injured in a kitchen fire, apparently resulting from the use of kerosene. She later died in the hospital on April 19, 1898 at the age of 32.
