Biography

John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

John Rederick Rees, son of Brigham Rees and Isabella Maria Mansfield, was born in Utah Territory in 1886. The Utah area became a part of the United States in 1848—but it took until 1896 for Utah to become a state.

The 1900 U.S. Federal Census places John Frederick with his parents and siblings in the Mill Creek District in Salt Lake County, Utah.

John registered for the draft in 1917. He was a stockman in a warehouse for Capital Electric, married with two children. He had blue eyes. He lived at 573 East Mansfield Street, Salt Lake City, Utah.

The 1910 U.S. census (April lists John, his parents and siblings, on 7th East in Mill Creek. John Frederick Reese married Violet Lois Gill some time after April 1910 in Salt Lake City, The couple had three children: Edward Lewis, Rayola Violet, and John Albert.

The 1920 census (January) lists Violet as a widow living with her mother and her three children in Salt Lake City.

John registered for the WW II draft in April 1942. He's 56, living at 563 E Mansfield Avenue in Salt Lake, with Thomas M Rees. He is a self-employed plasterer.

The 1930 census lists John at 553 Mansfield and his brother Thomas M Reese (school teacher) and family at 565 Mansfield in Mill Creek. John is listed as widowed, but Violet is alive and well and living with her next husband.

John, 53 and single, is at 563 Mansfield Avenue in the 1940 U.S. census. His brother Thomas and family is still at 565 Mansfield.
