↑ Alexander Leslie-Melville, 9th Earl of Leven was born on 7 November 1749.1 He was the son of David Leslie, 8th Earl of Leven and Wilhelmina Nisbet.1 He married Jane Thornton, daughter of John Thornton and Lucy Watson, on 12 August 1784.1 He died on 22 February 1820 at age 70.1
He was given the name of Alexander Leslie at birth.1 He succeeded to the title of 6th Lord Raith, Monymaill and Balwearie [S., 1690] on 9 June 1802.1 He succeeded to the title of 6th Viscount of Kirkcaldy [S., 1690] on 9 June 1802.1 He succeeded to the title of 6th Earl of Melville [S., 1690] on 9 June 1802.1 He succeeded to the title of 9th Earl of Leven [S., 1641] on 9 June 1802.1 He succeeded to the title of 9th Lord Melville of Monymaill [S., 1616] on 9 June 1802.1 He succeeded to the title of 9th Lord Balgonie [S., 1641] on 9 June 1802.1 In 1805 his name was legally changed to Alexander Leslie-Melville.1 He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] from 1806 to 1807.1
