George was residing in Gosport, Hampshire, at the time of his marriage.[1]
The "London Gazette" of 6th February 1816, had the following notice: Captain Charles S[amuel] S[palding] Evans, 76th Foot, and [his brother] Lieutenant Henry Andrew Grant Evans, 22nd Regiment, have been permitted to assume and bear the name of Gordon, in addition and after that of Evans.[2]
When his daughter Emma was baptised in 1810 he was described as Major George Evans.[3]
