Biography

Elisabeth von Württemberg (geb. nach 1412-gest. nach dem 29. April 1476) war die Tochter Eberhards des Milden von Württemberg und Elisabeths von Nürnberg. Sie wurde am 15. Januar 1428 mit Albrecht III. von Bayern, der später durch seine Beziehung zu Agnes Bernauer bekannt wurde, verlobt. Stattdessen heiratete sie aber heimlich den zu seiner Ausbildung am Hof Graf Ludwig von Württembergs weilenden Johann IV. von Werdenberg. Johann IV. von Werdenberg, der einige Jahre vor 1416 geboren ist, wurde am württembergischen Hof erzogen. Die heimliche Hochzeit der beiden Teenager wird wohl unmittelbar im Frühjahr 1428 stattgefunden haben. Am 27. April 1430 wurde in Stuttgart die Ehe anerkannt und Elisabeth ihre Heimsteuer auf die Ämter Balingen und Ebingen angewiesen, sowie die bereits bestehenden Pfandschaften der Werdenberger auf Sigmaringen und Veringen erneut bestätigt. Johann von Werdenberg starb am 26. April 1460 und er wurde im Familienbegräbnis in der Pfarrkirche St. Martin in Trochtelfingen begraben. Elisabeth war nach einer württembergischen Urkunde noch am 29. April 1476 am Leben. Ihre Ruhestätte ist nicht bekannt, aber ihrem Rang und ihrer Stellung entsprechend dürfte sie an der Seite ihres Gatten beigesetzt worden sein.[1]

Thanks Bea, and I agree that is does make them easier to find if the numeral is added, but the EuroAristo naming standards generally have to follow the ordinary naming standards and those are to use the name at birth.

Thanks for the reminder John, was already thinking about it , it's sometimes confusing though, some inherited the titles by birth, and I also wasn't sure if perhaps we should add them to the Birth name as well to make things easier when we search for them, but will correct it for them now.

Naming standards are that the Proper first name (name at birth) should be Johann and the preferred name should be Johann IV, because most rulers succeeded later in life, not when they were born.
