He was the son of Timothy Shepard, b. 6/18/1764 in Canterbury, Connecticut and Anna Moore Shepard, b. 4/27/1770 in Long Island City, Queens, New York. He married Abigail Wooley (born 25 Oct 1794 in New Jersey) in 1815 and they had seven children:
