His first marriage was to Sarah Blanchard.
His second marriage was in 1903 to Flora A. Jackson at Boston, Massachusetts. She was 67 at the time. Her parents were John Mcdonald Jackson and mothers name was Barbara Smith. [4]
Major fought as a Private in the Civil War in the 15th Vermont Volunteer Infantry, Co. H. He mustered in in Sep 1862 and was discharged in Aug 1863. [5] On his pension record he is listed as an Army Invalid and was suffering with chronic diarrhea, asthma, rheumatism and heart disease.[6]
