Biography

Census records:

    Ida is shown in the 1930 census of Roundup, Mellette Co., SD as living in the household of her father, Frank, a farmer, age 48, born Russia, parents both born Russia;  his wife, Lena F. (Magdelena), is age 46, born SD, parents both born Russia;  son Jake is a farm laborer, age 23;  daughter Lizzie is age 18;  daughter Magthina (Magdelena) is age 16;  son Frank is age 14;  son John is age 11;  daughter Ida is age 9;  son Harry is age 5;  and daughter Martha is age 2.  All children born SD, father born Russia and mother born SD.

    Ida is shown in the 1940 census of Mellette Co., SD as living in the household of her mother, Lena (Magdelena), a widow, age 52, born SD;  son Frank is a laborer in the WPA, age 25;  son Harry is a new worker, age 15;  daughter Martha is age 12;  daughter Ida Burnette is a maid in private work, age 20;  and Ida's son, Thomas Burnette, is shown as Indian (actually 3/8 Indian and 5/8 white), age 6 months, born SD.

Obituary - Ida E. Clary, 91, of Rapid City, died at a local nursing home on Thurs., Apr. 7, 2011.

Ida was born Feb. 9, 1920 at Mellette, SD to Frank and Magdelena (Schmoll) Bechtold. She attended school in White River and then married Roy C. Clary on Jan. 27, 1942 at Omaha, NE. They made their home in Omaha and resided there until Roy's death in 1985. Ida then moved to Rapid City in April of 1989 to live by family and to enjoy the area. She was a Jehovah's Witness by faith, enjoyed sewing, crocheting, flower gardening, reading and her church studies. Spending time with her family and friends was most important to her.

She is survived by two daughters, Sherry Zahurones of Rapid City and Kathleen Jo (Greg) Merritt of Mary Ester, Florida; her son, Richard (Sandra) Clary of Box Elder; one brother, Conrad (Thelma) Bechtold of Omaha, NE; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren; and many special friends.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Thomas Burnette; four brothers, Jacob, Frank, John and Harry; four sisters, Lydia, Betty, Martha and Maggie; and an infant great-great grandson.

Memorial services are set for 11:00am Sat., Apr. 16, 2011 at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City with Brother Frank Pauwels officiating. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Omaha, NE.
