Leona Cotner was born on February 15, 1890, in Blaine, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, to William Henry Cotner and Mildred (Millie) Short.

The 1900 U.S. Census for Township 9 N, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, records a William H. Catner as the 38-year-old head of household, born in Missouri. His wife, Milley Catner, is 40 years old, born in Kentucky. Their children are listed as follows: Walter G. Catner, son, 15 yrs, Erisona, daughter, 12 yrs; Leona, daughter 10 yrs; Matilda L., daughter, 9 yrs; and Cara Catner, daughter, 2 yrs. All the children are listed as having been born in Indian Territory.

The 1910 U.S. Census for Stigler, Ward 3, Haskell, Oklahoma, lists Millie Cottoner as the head of household. She is a widow, white, 49 years old, born in Kentucky. With her are her children: Walter T. Cottoner, son, 25 yrs; Leona Cottoner, daughter, 20 yrs; Matalda Cottoner, daughter, 18 yrs; and Carrie Cottoner, daughter, 10 yrs. All the children are listed as born in Oklahoma.

Leona married Henry Harrison Hite on December 23, 1916, in Stigler, Haskell, Oklahoma. She was 26; he was 31.

In 1921, Leona's home was the site of a wedding. Her sister, Arizona, married George Robert Jenkins at the Hite home in Hartshorne. An affadavit signed by Harry Hite indicates that he had known the Cotners for nine years.

Leona Hite died in 1922. She is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Hartshorne, Pittsubrg, Oklahoma. According to my grandmother (her daughter), Leona had sustained some sort of injury, possibly in an accident involving a bicycle.
