Jemima Elkington was born in 1725. She was said to have been of Evesham Township in Burlington, New Jersey when she married to Thomas French in 1746, an act that Thomas was admonished for as she was not a Quaker. At a "Women's Friends" monthly meeting at Haddonfield in 1752, it was reported by overseers of Chester Meeting "ye Jemima French desire to come under ye notice of Friends which Friends take under consideration."
Jemima made her will dated 1 April 1789. It was proved 13 May 1789 in Burlington, NJ. She mentioned her three sons Edward, Uriah, and George. She mentioned her daughter Sarah Brown and granddaughter Unea Keen, indicating the residue of her estate was to be divided equally between her four children and Unea Keen.
