Biography

Edith May Bird Mathewson was born on December 15, 1872 in Visalia, Tulare, California to Arthur Mathewson and Lucinda Tinkham. (Note: Edith is shown on the 1930 Census as having been born in Nebraska.)

In 1880, Edith resided in Kaweah and Mineral King, Tulare, California with her parents and siblings.^[1]

Edith married William Kelly Mosher on December 24, 1899. In 1900, they were residents of Exeter and Lindsay Townships, Tulare, California. William was a farmer. (Note: There are transcription errors arising out of markups on the handwritten 1900 U.S. Census record. On the handwritten document, cited here, Edith and William appear together on line 14 and 15 as head of household and wife.) ^[2]

Edith and William had a son, Merritt Charles in 1901, and two daughters, Dorothy and Isabelle, in 1903 and 1904. William died in 1907.

After William's death, Edith married Jeremiah "Jerry" C. Sullivan. In 1920, Edith and Jerry lived in Visalia, Tulare, California, where he was a grain farmer. The household included Jerry's two children from a previous marriage - Fay and Jerry Sullivan; and Edith's daughters - Dorothy and Isabelle Mosher.^[3] In 1940, their household in Visalia included Jerry's adult children, Fay and Jerry. ^[4]

Edith died on January 18, 1961 and was buried in Visalia Public Cemetery, Visalia, Tulare, California.^[5]
