Biography

Charles Harvey was born in 1847. He is the son of Christopher Bagot and Margaret Watts.

Obituary 23 Nov 1911 Col. Charles Hervey Bagot, C.B.; who died at East Grinstead, Sussex, on November 8, was the eldest son of the late Mr. Christopher M. Bagot. of Koonunga. and of the late Mrs. Margaret E. Bagot, of North Adelaide. He was born at Koonunga, in 1847. and educated at St. Peters College until 1863, when he left for England to coach for the army. From the Royal Military Academy, of Woolwich, he passed into the Royal Engineers as a lieutenant in 1868. His subsequent promotions were: — Captain in 1880, Major in 1887, Lieutenant Colonel in 1894, Brevet-Colonel int 1898. and Colonel in 1899. The deceased was stationed in India, South Africa., and Canada, and saw active service in the Afghan war 1878-79). and in the Bechuanaland expedition (1884-85). Twice he was mentioned in despatches. He became Deputy Inspector-General of Fortifications on the head quarters staff in 1899, and held the position until his retirement in 1904. Col. Bagot was made a companion of the Order of the Bath in 1900. A widow, three daughters, and one son, a midshipman on H.M.S. Vanguard, besides two married daughters, the issue of his first marriage, survive.[1]
