Biography

From a biography written and attributed to is grandson Samuel William Barr, found in Patricia Kelley Lindgren's library. Added by Anne Lindgren, 2018

"Dr. Samuel Benjamin Franklin Caldwell Barr was born 7 Sep 1827. He graduated from the University in Nashville, Tenn., now the Rockefeller University, in 1852 & 53 with his Doctorate and Medical Arts degree. He entered the Confederate Army, Co. F. 55 McKoins, TN Regiment (2nd Lt., Capt. James E Scobey's Co. recorded in company muster), Dec. 20, 1861, at the age of 33. He would later be appointed to the Freedman's Bureau in the State of Tennessee and signed the proclamation. He married Mary Whitson in 1862 in L... Tennessee where they had three children. The family moved to Lebanon, Missouri where Sam, my father was born. His son, Samuel Barr passed away in 1882 and was buried on Stovall farm. The marker has been lost; journal found with body."
