Biography
Harvey St.John Sr is listed in the St.John Genealogy book [1] as being the son of Nehemiah St.John Jr. and Mary Archer. It has been confirmed through DNA testing that he is of this line. The same book also states that when his father passed away that year (1797) Harvey was given a guardian (Aaron Comstock), who raised him. Comstocks married St.Johns so this was probably an uncle (unconfirmed).
Harvey is found in the Saltfleet Township (Wentworth County) census in 1818, living close to his Rittenburg/Vandusen in-laws. [1]
Catherine (Rittenburg) St. John - Harvey's wife - is not listed in Saltfleet censuses until 1861 where she states she is a widow. There is speculation that Harvey left her and that she moved back to Canada - although we have no record that she left Canada and her son Russell states on the 1861 census that he was born in Binbrook, CW (beside Saltfleet Twp) in 1841.
Although I see references and speculations that Harvey was living in New York State (there are Harvey St.Johns listed in the New York census), I was unable to confirm that those Harveys are this Harvey. Harvey could have died any time after 1840 as Russell St.John was born in 1841.
