Biography

Leon Thomas Carey was born in 1878. He is the son of Thomas Carey and Annie Carey. He was listed as Thomas Leon Carey in the Michael Carey descendants file.[1] In 1880, the family was living in Key West, Monroe County, Florida. He was the first born child, listed as Thomas L Carey on the census.[2] By 1885, he had a brother, Edward.[3] By 1900, Thomas was 22, single, and still living at home with his parents and three siblings - Edward, Ella and Ervel (Huel?). He was noted as Leon on the census. He was working as a sponger. His father was a sponger packer.[4] He was still living with his family in 1910.[5]

He married Sybil Sloan or Storm on 19 July 1911 in Key west, Monroe County, Florida.[6][7]

In 1918, he registered for the WWI draft in Key West. He listed Sybil Carey, his wife, as his nearest relative.[8]

In 1920[9] and 1930[10], the couple was living in Key west. They apparently had no children. Sybil was born in Oregon.

Thomas passed away in 1937.[11] Burial was in the Key West Cemetery, Key West, Monroe County, Florida. He is listed as Leon Thomas Carey on his Find A Grave memorial.[12]
