Biography
When Vernon White Bowen was born on July 7, 1888,[1] in Carnsville, Georgia,[2] his father, James, was 40 and his mother, Ella, was 37.[3] He married Delia 'Lila' Jane Voyles in 1908. They had six children:
- Clarence Thomas, Sr. (1910–2005)
- Thelma Bowen (1913–2008)
- Clara Faye (1915–1951)[4]
- Reba Opal (1917–2003)[5]
- Onie Belle (1919–2000)[6]
- Warren Thurman, Sr. (1921–1986)
He died as a young father on May 2, 1923, in Franklin, Georgia,[7] at the age of 34, and was buried in Carnesville, Georgia.[8]
