The 1850 U.S. Federal Census records James Dysart age 45 born in TN, as a farmer living in Marshall Co., Tennessee. In his household are Leah age 44 born in TN, Susan D. age 18, Ester E. C. age 13, Robert age 20, and Alfred age 18.[1] This James is James Porter Dysart-247 now 45 years of age; Leah, age 44, is the daughter of Robert Jackson Orr and wife of James Porter Dysart. Their daughters are Susan Denny Dysart and Ester Elizabeth Clinton Dysart. Robert Eli Dysart age 20 and Alfred Allen Dysart age 18 are their nephews and were the sons of John Dysart, James P. Dysart's brother, who died in 1835 and Elizabeth H. Orr Dysart, Leah's sister who died in 1834.

The 1860 U.S. Federal Census records James P. Dysart, age 55 born in TN, as a farmer living in District 6, Marshall Co., Tennessee with the P.O. at Belfast. In his household are Leah Dysart age 54 born in TN and Esther C. age 23 born in TN.[2]

The 1870 U.S. Federal Census records James Dysart age 65 born in TN as a farmer living in District 6, Marshall Co., Tennessee. In his household are Leah age 64 born in TN, Clinton (a female) aged 33 born in TN, Lucy (race Black) age 55 born in AL, Simon age 38 (race Black) born in TN recorded as a farmer and a citizen of the US, Annah age 17 (race Black) born in TN, Sallie age 7 (race Black) born in TN, Mary Dysart age 18 born in TN, and Annah age 25 born in TN.[3]
