Biography
Robert is estimated to have been born about 1775 at his parents home, possibly in Virginia. A common but unsourced date of 12 Sept 1783 is commonly found online with the usual attribution of "Ancestry Family Tree". Nothing is known of Robert's early life as his parents appear to have sold their holdings in Albemarle County, Virginia shortly before he was born. The family next reliably shows up in Madison County, Kentucky about 1785, acquiring a farm and settling down. Robert spent his remaining childhood years in this area.
Robert's father James died in 1789 without leaving a will. It took several decades to settle the estate, but during the 1790s, Robert's older brothers John and Andrew bought out most of their siblings shares in their father's estate. Robert was apparently still living in Madison County in 1800 when he is listed in a tax record. [1]
Shortly after 1800, Robert left Kentucky and migrated to Tennesses, accompanied by his brother Alexander. They were among the earliest settlers in what is today Giles County, Tennesse and were founding citizens in th establishment of the town of Pulaski of that county. They are first recorded
