Haney, Thomas, Pvt., Co. H, born 1809 in South Carolina, enlisted for 12 months November 16, 1861 at Riceville, Tenn., age 52, last paid December 31, 1861, last present at Jan./Feb. 1862 muster held at Zollicoffer, Tenn. April 18, 1862, believed killed "by his own men" or "bushwacked" leaving behind a widow and 6 children, a son James voluntered for service in the 11th Tennessee Cavalry, USA, Co. G, farmer owning 80 acres of land in McMinn County, Tenn., married 1847 to Eliza Raby, which union produced six children (M268 Roll 292) [Descendant - Sharon Kay Haney Mattingly, Aledo, IL]

• This death date comes more than 9 months prior to his last child's birth (one of the six children mentioned above). So he would have died in 1863 at the latest if Mary Jane Haney was his biological daughter.
