Elisha M. Smothers was born on 14 January 1800 in Carrol County, Tennessee, United States, son of William Smothers (1762–1832).^[1]

Elisha married Sarah Elizabeth McEwing (born November 19, 1803 in Virginia). Their children were:

1. Austin Lee Smothers (1827–1915)
2. Elizah McEwing Smothers (1834–1929)
3. Martha M D (Smothers) Sinor (abt.1839-abt.1907)

He married Rachel Elizabeth Stratton (born December, 1842 in Arkansas).

In 1850, Elisha (50) was living in Carroll county, part of, Carroll, Tennessee. ^[1]

He died on 15 January 1881 in Buford, Baxter County, Arkansas, United States, aged 81. He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Buford.^[2]
