Richard Rose was born January 22, 1735, the son of Edward Rose and Mary Phippen of Salem, Essex, Massachusetts^[1]

On December 19, 1758, he married Martha Corning^[2], daughter of David Corning and Priscilla Thistle of Beverly, Essex, Massachusetts.^[3]

Richard and Martha emigrated to Yarmouth Nova Scotia in 1765 ^{[4] [5] [3]}

Their children included:

1. Mary, born February 25, 1760^[6], and died the same year^[3]
2. Mary, born April 9, 1763^[7]; who married Captain Richard Patten of Yarmouth, and who died on Feb 21, 1844^[3]
3. Martha, born October 19, 1766^[8]; who married Captain William Harris, son of Samuel on December 21, 1786, and who died August 11, 1833^[3]
4. Anna, born April 23, 1768, who married Capt Walter Sollows, son of John on June 6, 1788^[3]
5. Richard Jr, born 1770, who probably died young (n.f.i.f)^[3]
6. Nathan, born 1773, who probably died young (n.f.i.f)^[3]
7. David, born November 4, 1774, who married Bethiah Kelley, daughter of Captain James Kelley, and who died Feb 6, 1860^[3]
8. Stephen, born May 19, 1777, who married Mary Kelley, daughter of Captain James, and who died October 29, 1831^[3]
9. Susanna, born August 30, 1779, who married Abraham Killam son of John; and then married Zaccheus Churchill, son of Ephraim^[3]
10. Hannah, born August 11, 1781, who married Richard Williams, son of Richard^[3]
