Biography

Hughie John Mcdonald, son of Daniel Mcdonald and Mary E. O'Brine Mcdonald, was born 11 Nov 1898 in Hanson, Plymouth, Massachusetts. ^[1] He lived with his family in Hanson in 1910.^[2]

He came to Canada with his family in 1912. During the First World War, he served with the U.S. Army. He was educated at the University of Alberta, receiving degrees of BA in 1921 and LLB in 1923. Having served as an alderman in Edmonton, he was elected to the Alberta Legislature in 1940, serving a single term. In 1944, he was appointed a judge of the trial division of the Supreme Court of Alberta and would later serve on the Alberta Court of Appeal. ^[3]

He died in 1963 and was buried in Saint Anthony Cemetery, Edmonton, Alberta. ^[4]
