Samuel Ridlen/Redlon was born June 10, 1792 in Phillipsburgh Twp, Mass., (now Hollis/Saco, York County, Maine). The fifth of eleven children born to Abraham and Patience (Tibbetts) Ridlen; his siblings being: Stephen Ridlen, Timothy Tibbetts Ridlen, Patience (Ridlen) Wells, Ruth (Ridlen) Robertson, Mary/Polly Ridlen, Abraham Ridlen, Susan (Ridlen) Mann, John Ridlen, Nicholas Pricket Ridlen, and Rachel (Ridlen) Teitsort Cousens.

In 1800, he moved with his family to Clermont County, Ohio. This is where Samuel married his wife Sarah Davis on July 18, 1813. To this union nine children were born: Lucinda Ridlen, Patience Ridlen, Elizabeth (Ridlen) Ross, Prudence (Ridlen) Mulford, Nancy Ridlen, Jane (Ridlen) Duncan Aiken, Martha Ann Ridlen, Sarah Ann (Ridlen) Alexander, and Samuel Davis Ridlen.

Samuel Ridlen served as a Sergeant in the 4th Ohio Regt. under Captain S. B. Kyle and Col. Findley in the War of 1812. He enlisted from Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio and served from April 25, 1812 to April 24, 1813. For his service, he was granted "bounty warrants" for 160 acres in southern Illinois. The area known as "Egypt", in "Webbs Prairie", Franklin County, Illinois. Samuel purchased an additional 40 acres @ $1.25 cents an acre at a cost of $50 in section 21 of the NWSW of T5S R4E, Northern Township in Franklin County on April 12, 1854. It is believed that it is this land that the Liberty Church and cemetery is located, having been donated by Samuel Ridlen.

Samuel died in July 20, 1878, at the age of 86y, 1m, 10d, at the home of his daughter Jane (Ridlen) Duncan Aiken, where he had made his home following the death of his wife, Sarah (Davis) Ridlen, in 1857. They are buried in the Liberty Ridlen cemetery. Find A Grave: Memorial #30993150
