Henrietta Jex-Blake was the daughter of Thomas Jex-Blake, an Anglican priest and educationalist and Henrietta Cordery. She was a skilled violinist, suffragist, and second principal of Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, from 1909-1921. Miss Jex-Blake was a firm believer in female labor, teaching, and administration, and was known for encouraging many of her students to finish their studies at LMH before joining the war efforts during the First World War. She passed away in 1953. Lady Margaret Hall funds two graduate scholarships under her name.
