Biography

Raymond was born on 30 May 1905 at 'Highlands', Auburn, South Australia.[1] "He met Dorothy Vera Heinrich while holidaying at Victor Harbour. Ray and Dorry married on 8 Feb 1930 on a stinking hot day (108F, 42C) at the Methodist Church, Bute." [2] [3]

Ray and Dorothy settled at 'Glenburnie', Hallett and they had three sons: Bruce, Geoffrey and Rex.

While shearing in 1943, Ray suddenly became ill. He was rushed to Burra hospital and had his appendix removed. He was recuperating normally until the unset of peritonitus, and tragically died two days later on 2nd November. [4] [5]

"MR RAY F. THOMAS The death of Mr. Raymond F. Thomas. of 'Glenburnie' station, Hallett. which occurred on November 2nd, at the Burra Hospital, caused widespread regret throughout the district. The deceased gentleman who was only 38 years, succumbed after a short severe illness. A member of a well-known sheep breeding family, Mr. Thomas was the. eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Thomas 'Craiglea,' Manoora. He leaves a widow 'and three young sons for whom with his parents and brothers very sincere sympathy is expressed. The funeral which took place at Hallett on Wednesday, was largely attended by residents not only of Hallett but other distant districts, and the cortege, a long one. The service was conducted by the Rev. R. Brook, and' the funeral arrangements by Messrs C. J. Pearce & Son. Funeral Directors. Burra. A large number of beautiful floral tributes covered the hearse and casket."
