Biography

"Known as 'Mamie' by her grandchildren, Hattie was the daughter of William Henry Wilson & Virginia Idonia Graves Wilson.

She married Herman Wiley Adams, son of Louis Sercy Adams & Ellinor Elizabeth Hoffmeister Adams, on the banks of a creek near Fouke, AR on July 7, 1923.

Hattie was soft spoken & known for her gentle spirit & unselfishness, with a steadfast Christian faith that sustained her through many trials, including the deaths of two of her nine children, & enduring the hardships brought on by 'The Great Depression.'

During these lean times, Hattie perfected her recipe for Vinegar Pie that became a tradition in the Adams family.

She was a devoted & loving wife, mother, & grandmother of 21 grandchildren.

Her death was brought on after suffering for several years from Alzheimer's.

Her favorite little rhyme described her perfectly:

'If any little word of mine can make a heart the lighter,
If any little song of mine may make the world seem brighter,
God help me say the little word and do my bit of singing,
And drop it in a lonely vale to set the echoes ringing.'"

- tribute by Kathy Marie Cagle Baker
