Biography

Jane was born in 1798.

Jane Corzine married James Braden on 30 August 1820 in Williamson County, Tennessee. [1]

Her siblings and parents were in Lincoln County in the 1800 and the 1810 Lincoln Co., North Carolina Census records. Her father Eli Corzine and her brother Enos Corzine left Lincoln County, North Carolina by 1816. They are listed on the "removed" list in the Lincoln County Tax list in Miscellaneous Records, tax list 1817, North Carolina State Archives. They must have left in 1816. Therefore, all children born before 1816 were born in Lincoln County, North Carolina.

She passed away before 1880 as Jane is listed d in 1870 Ninth Civil District, Marshall Co., Tennessee Census, 25 Aug 1870, p. 12, but not listed in the 1880 Census. [2]

Parent’s connection evidence researched by Jenny Calvin:

1) James & Jane were married in Williamson Co. in 1820. Jane had to live there or nearby in the 1820 census. Eli Corzine is the only Corzine in the area who had a daughter in the right age range (age 16-25) not otherwise accounted for in 1820.

2) When Eli’s estate was sold in 1821 after his death (presumably because he died intestate), 3 of the purchases were by James Braden; the majority of purchases were by his widow Esther and other Corzines. James bought a tub for $0.25, a log chain for $3, and a cow & calf for $12.50.

3) James & Jane named one of their daughters Ruanna, as did their daughter Rachel Braden Burgess. Since that is not a common name, it is somewhat significant that several of the estate purchases were by Ruanna Corzine (relationship unknown at this time); also, Esther Sherrill had a sister named Ruanna.

4) Jane is listed as born in North Carolina in several censuses and children’s death records; Eli Corzine and Esther Sherrill were married in Lincoln County, North Carolina, in 1791. [3]
