Biography

Brita, the daughter of soldier Eric Grén in the soldier's croft in Gredby and his wife Maria Andersdotter, was born 5 May 1801.[1][2][3] Her father was commanded out in 1805 and participated in the Finnish war. He was taken prisoner in in 1809; in 1810 it is noted that it is uncertain whether he is dead or alive. The family (mother and three children) went to stay with soldier Ås in Fors parish, who was married to the younger sister of Brita's mother. Her mother was poor and bedridden. Maria left to take service in Hammarby in 1813.[4]

Brita Ersdotter married Carl Persson 19 October 1821. The marriage record tells us that her soldier father had died in the war and her mother received support from the parish.[5] Carl and Brita lived in Åsby to begin with.[6] Their second child was born in Tumbo parish. In 1825 they settled as tenants in Sundströmsstugan under Kolsta in Eskilstuna Fors parish.[7][8][9][10][11]

Brita Ersdotter was widowed in 1844[21] and subsequently lived mostly in the poorhouse.[22] Carl Persson's widow, Brita Ersdotter, died 21 October 1875.[23]
