Biography

Joshua Tucker served with Capt. John Powell's Company, Vermont Republic Militia during the American Revolution.

Joshua Tucker was born July 4, 1738 in Leicester, MA. He is the son of Benjamin Tucker and Mary Warren. ^{[1] [2]} The Leicester, Massachusetts Vital Records show the date of July 3, 1738, under entry for "Tuckor". ^[3]

Joshua Tucker and Sara Davis were married 4 Feb 1765 in Leicester, Worcester County, Massaachusetts. ^[4]

He came to Monadnock No. V [now called Marlborough, Cheshire County, New Hampshire], with his father and brothers; resided here for several years, then moved to Strafford, Vermont. Nine children are listed. ^[1]

Married Dec 23, 1764. Elizabeth Davis of Roxbury, Massachusetts, born Apr 7, 1747 in Leicester, Massachusetts. ^[5]

He is mentioned as an early settler in Strafford, a few years after 1768 and before the revolution. He was one of the first selectman in Strafford, Vermont, March 1778. ^[6]

Joshua Tucker is a Vermont Republic patriot. He was a soldier and performed Civilian duties as a J.P. in 1781. ^[7]

He died 17 Apr 1822, Cherry Valley, Otsego Count, New York. ^[8]

Joshua had 19 children, including 5 sets of twins. A daughter, Jemima Tucker married Prince Hopkins, a Mayflower descendant. Jemima (Tucker) Hopkins died @1826 in Springfield, Otsego County, NY - DAR as noted above.

Discrepancy

The Marlborough Town History is the only source which mentions the wife Elizabeth Davis from Roxbury. The Massachusetts Marriage record does not offer details on Elizabeth. No other record has been found of this supposed marriage. She is not mentioned on the Find A Grave record.
