Roy, son of Fred and Cora Nelson Madison, was born at Goldfield on Sept. 16, 1906. He graduated from Goldfield High School, then worked at John Deere at Waterloo for ten years. Roy was married to Josephine Grandgeorge at Waterloo on Feb. 16, 1935. The Madisons left Waterloo in 1944 and farmed near Woden and Goldfield until 1967 when they came to Algona. Roy was employed by the City of Algona. After his retirement, Roy worked as a security guard for several years.
During their 55 years of marriage, the Madisons were foster parents for several children and very active in the foster parent program.
Mr. Madison is survived by his wife, Josephine; and one son, Robert, Sioux City. They have two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A brother and three sisters also survive: Leonard Madison, Goldfield; Pearl, Mrs. Julius McAdams, Dows, IA; Edna Glidden, Denver, CO and Ann Donai, Peoria, IL. Seven brothers and two sisters are deceased.[1]
