Biography

Cira Macaluso is born and baptized 18 October 1871 in Corleone, the daughter of Ciro Macaluso and Maria Milazzo. Her godparents are Vincenzo Billitti and Giovanna d’Affronto, a married couple.[1]

Cira's brother, Marco, is a business associate of Giuseppe Morello in East Harlem, through his building cooperative.

Cira marries Rosario Parisi, who was also born in Corleone, in New York City on 19 February 1888. Rosario is 21, the son of Giuseppe Parisi and Anna Maria Trombadore.[2][3]

At Marco's naturalization, in 1899, Rosario is the only witness. Marco and Rosario are both barbers and close neighbors. Rosario lives at 2067 2nd Av.[4]

Rosario and Cira have six living children in 1910: Giuseppe/Joseph (c. 1890), Marie B. (c. 1893), Ciro (c. 1895), Francesco/Frank (1897), Eleonora (1899), and Guglielmo/William P. (1903).

Joseph is known from the 1910 census.

Marie B. is known from the 1910 census.

Ciro is known from the 1910 census.

Francesco is born 12 February 1897 in Manhattan. Rosario is 29 (b. 1867), and Cira is 26 (b. 1870).[5]

Five days before Cira and Rosario's daughter, Eleonora, is born, Marco Macaluso becomes naturalized. Rosario is the only witness. The men are both barbers. Rosario lives at 2067 2nd Av. in New York.[6]

Eleonora is born 29 August 1899 in Manhattan. Rosario is 32 (b. 1867), and Cira, 28 (b. 1871).[7]

Guglielmo (this record calls the child “Guglielnio Tarisi”) is born 29 March 1903 in Manhattan. Rosario is 35, and Cira is 31.[8]

In the 1910 federal census of New York City, taken 22 April, the Parisi family appear as the “Paris” family, at 2067 2nd Av in Manhattan:

Rosario, 42 (b. 1868), his wife of 22 years, Cira, 38 (b. 1872), and children Joseph, 20 (b. 1890), Marie B., 17 (b. 1893), Ciro (“Chero”), 15 (b. 1895), Frank, 13 (b. 1897), Eleanor, 10 (b. 1900), and William P., 7 (b. 1903). The children were all born in NY and their parents in Italy. Cira has had 7 children, 6 living. Rosario, who immigrated in 1883, is a barber who owns his own business. Cira immigrated in 1887. Joseph is a dock hand. Marie B. is a stenographer.[9]

Cira's brother, Marco, also registers for the draft for WWI in 1918, from the Parisi family's 1910 address.[11]
