Biography
John was born in 1750. He is the son of Henry Skidmore and Elizabeth Potter.
He is thought by some to have married Mary Magdalena "Polly" Henckle (1743-1829, daughter of the German immigrant Johann Justus Henkle [1706-1778] and his wife Maria Magdalena Eschmann [1710-1798]), but there are doubts about this linkage in consideration of the dates involved. Polly's wife is supposed to have been a Revolutionary War veteran (a Capt.) but Capt. John Skidmore may not be the same as this one. The children found at Ancestry.com seem to include some who DO belong to this John and some from someone else.
