Charles Talbot, Duke of Shrewsbury, began building Heythrop Park, Oxfordshire, in the Roman Baroque style in 1706, soon after returning from Rome, where he had been impressed with the buildings. It was still unfinished when he died in 1718. Heythrop Park remained an important residence of succeeding Earls of Shrewsbury until it was badly damaged by fire in 1831.
