Biography

Laurence Robert Maconochie Welwood may have been born around 1903 or so. He was the only son of John Allan Maconochie Welwood and Winifred Louisa (Drummond) Maconachie Welwood.

On 7 Sep 1934, Laurence married Lady Elizabeth Henrietta Howard, youngest sister of the Earl of Carlisle, as is more fully described by excerpts from the press article (2):

The marriage took place at Lanercost Abbey, Cumberland, this afternoon of Mr Laurence Robert Maconachie Welwood, only son of the late John Allan Maconachie Welwood and Mrs Maconachie Welwood of Kirknewton House, Midlothian and Lady Elizabeth Henrietta Howard, youngest sister of the late Earl of Carlisle and Rhoda, Countess of Carlisle.

The bridegroom has been farming in Kenya for several years, and after the honeymoon, he and his bride will settle down there for some time. ............... A reception was held afterwards by the Earl and Countess of Carlisle at Naworth Castle.

It is possible that the couple / family remained in Kenya for some time, perhaps permanently, since later records in UK have proved difficult to locate.
