Biography

Lydia was born August 3, 1735, the daughter of Stephen Durkee and Lois Moulton of Windham, Connecticut[1]

On January 11, 1758, she married Eleazar Butler, the son of Thomas Butler and Abigail Crafts of Ipswich and Windham[2] [3], and in 1762 they emigrated to Nova Scotia, along with her brother Phineas Durkee, and were among the founders of Yarmouth[4] [5] [6]

Their children included:

  1. Lois, born November 17, 1758[7], who married Benjamin Barnard, son of Rev. Thomas [3]
  2. Chloe, a twin born June 13, 1760[8], who married Capt. John Barnard, and then married Waitstill Lewis[3]
  3. Lydia, a twin born June 13, 1760[8], who married Capt. Nehemiah Patch, and then married John Richan, of the Orkney Islands[3]
  4. Eleazar, born 1763, who married Joanna Ellenwood, daughter of Benjamin[3]
  5. Andrew, born December 31, 1766, who married Sarah (Durfee) Camp, a widow, and daughter of Shelburne Loyalist Capt. John Durfee[3]
  6. Nathan, born September 8, 1768, who died at sea, unmarried[3]
  7. Sybil, born Feb 1770, who married James Power[3]
  8. Abigail, born June 11, 1774, who married Jacob Kelley, son of James[3]

She passed away April 10, 1812, and is buried in Old Main St. Cemetery in Yarmouth[9].

Lydia was born in 1735. She passed away in 1812.
